You will receive a packet containing a minimum of 10 seeds or 5 grams of our homegrown organic red Canna. Cannas are heat-loving, sun-loving plants that thrive in well-draining soil, making them ideal for warm climates or sunny garden spots. Once established, these hardy perennials produce stunning red flowers atop tall, elegant stems, creating a stunning visual display from mid-summer through early fall. Cannas grown from seed typically bloom in their second year.

Canna seeds are easy to grow, if a little time-consuming to prepare for sowing. Seeds have a very hard seed coat that must be softened through scarification or soaking. One method of germinating seeds involves nicking the seed coat with a file or sandpaper, then placing the seeds in a glass of water until the seedling's cotyledon (seed leaf) begins to emerge before planting very shallowly in moist but well-draining soil. Whatever your method, canna seedlings need warm, moist soil and bright light to thrive. Seeds should ideally be started about eight weeks before the last frost, so that young plants can be placed outdoors in garden beds or large containers once all danger of frost has passed. Canna plants are sensitive to frost, so must be dug and overwintered indoors in cold areas.
