In 1837 Joseph Myatt, an English plant breeder cultivated his variety of Rhubarb and named it after Queen Victoria, giving it the name Victoria Rhubarb. Myatt’s variety has the distinct red stalks that Rhubarb is known for today. The leaves of the Rhubarb plant are inedible but the beautiful stalks are used in jams, jellies, pies, and many other desserts! Rhubarb is easy to grow and once established will return year after year making it a delicious and unique garden staple!
