Dot Montgillion was born in 1928 in Kansas. She and her family later moved to the east coast where she eventually found herself working at the USDA national laboratory doing research on various agricultural topics including sterilizing cannabis seeds and food safety. In the early 1970s, she and her husband Bob Montgillion decided to ditch city life and buy a farm in West Virginia, where Dot would start a small herb business Smoke Camp Crafts. Dot also would become a founding member of the West Virginia Herb Association and the Mountain State Organic and Growers and Buyers Association. She was an absolute treasure with bountiful wit and a perpetual and contagious smile. She is a dearly missed member of the West Virginia farming and herbal communities.
